Keyword Winner is a new WordPress plug-in released by Dan Lew. I know Dan through his comments in several posts in my blog and through his personal blog, so I could say Dan is a decent SEO expert guy. Despite his knowledge in SEO, let critic around his latest plug-in. In this post, we will take a complete view on Keyword Winner, to see what it is, what it isn’t and how you can squeeze “all of the juice” out of it.
What It Is?
There are many definitions on what the plug-in is all about (Funny, huh!
) But, I hope to give you a concise idea about this plug-in under my view.
Keyword Winner is a blog’s plug-in which aids on-page optimization for your blog.
How?
By showing you which keywords you should put in your title, slug, content and tags to gain maximum exposure from search engines.
Any other uses than that?
Oh, you are pushing me too far. If you want, here’s the extra use for it that I found.
Show you exactly what keywords you should put in your anchor text to build off-page optimization (or link building, please, for more simple and native term
)
Do you get it?
I hope you do because I will not only give you a complete review about this software, but also how to use it right and show you one of my study case.
What It Is Not? Or Any Keyword Winner Scams?
There are so many critics around this plug-in since it was published. I won’t mind to put paraphrases of some critics here and I will comment around them so you can decide whether to purchase this plug-in or not.
First of, this plug-in is not a complete keyword research tool.
Sorry, but it’s true. If it’s a complete keyword research tool, I doubt Market Samurai will have to close down their website soon, haha.
Because it isn’t a complete keyword research tool, you can’t explore niches; you can’t find out how much monthly traffic, average cost per click, etc. No, none of that.
What I mean by explore niches? For instance, if I want to explore niche wedding, I will put wedding into keyword research software, says Market Samurai. Market Samurai will give me a huge list of up to 800 keywords that contain “wedding” in it and from then, so I can explore keywords like “wedding plan”, “wedding book”, etc.
This plug-in won’t let me do that. If I type in “wedding”, it will give me a result of 10 keywords or so, which dosen’t help in exploring niches at all.
Some bloggers claim that it’s missing “exact phrase”, “broad phrase” feature. In case you don’t know what it is, I have an excellent post explaining these terms.
It’s right that this plug-in misses those features, but who care? I mean, if you decide on a keyword, you should optimize for that exact keywords as well as the long-tail versions of it. That means if I am going to target keyword “wedding plan book” for example, I can’t just create several hundreds backlinks with “wedding plan book” as an anchor text. Doing so will make it look unnaturally to search engines. So, I can have backlinks with anchor like “book about wedding plan”, “collection of books on wedding plan”, etc; You get the idea.
You may ask, since KeyWordWinner doesn’t offer lot of features in here. Why you should purchase it?
As I already say above, Keyword Winner offers you a convenience (you don’t have to switch back between tab and tab, WordPress to another software). In addition, it shows you exactly which keywords you have to optimize for. So I would strongly recommend you to purchase this software.
Note: I just received an email from Dan saying that the price will increase in the next 72 hours. You will have the chance to purchase it at $47 any more. It will go up at least $30. It’s better to secure one copy now!
How to use it right?
If you have purchased this software, welcome! Because in this section, I will give you an idea on how to use this plug-in right.
Whenever you’re in your blog admin dashboard, click on Add New button.
Type in first or two meaning words of a keyword you want to optimize for. Remember, just one or two words because I found this plug-in generates best results when you put in a short keyword.
Hit Get Suggestions.
The plug-in will return to you several rows. Pay attention to the green row first, if there’s any because it marks that’s a low competition keyword and you should put your title according to it.
You may notice now that this way only works if you don’t have any idea about a topic that you want to write. How’s about the case when you have a topic in mind?
In that case, just run one or two words of the main keyword for your topic into the plug-in and it will tell you how’s hard it is to get your post rank on the first page. If orange and red color are returned for your keyword, you may have to do little extra work to get it rank on the first page.
Study case of how I use Keyword Winner
One of the post that I have used Keyword Winner to optimize for post title, tag and other thing is “20 Awesome SEO Infographics + Bonus for bloggers“. First of, I put seo infographic inside the text box and run suggestions.
Keyword Winner tells me it’s not a good keyword to optimize for.
Ok, so obviously, I should not name anything like “SEO Infographic You Must Watch” etc.
Let’s take a look for keyword “SEO Infographics” then.
Alright. seo infographics is the good one because it has lowest competition pages than seo infographic. I have already optimized for that. Let see which page on Google where my site is.

Second position in second page. Not a very bad result!
Conclusion.
It’s not a surprise why several top bloggers like John Chow (you know his blog!), Hesham of Famousbloggers.net and many other people are talking about this product all the times. I personally think it’s a good product. You will need it to optimize for post title and other places on your blog. The price will increase in the next three days according to his website so it’s better to act now!

You’re welcome, mate

Hey Mike, just a small tip.. when you search about your position on google, make sure you logged-out of your account!
By Mike
Hi Hesham, glad to see you here and thank you for the tip
Btw, I want to ask, did you receive any email from me recently? I just sent you an email regards guest blogging and I wondered whether you received it or not. Please let me know. Have a great weekend!
By Dinesh @ DialyBlogMoney
I’m going to buy this, what your opinion? is it really useful?
By Mike
It’s a good plug-in. Can’t say it’s a perfect solution for targeting keywords due to several draw backs I have talked about on my review but generally, you should try it out
By Soren
Dan has done a great job with this plugin, I have noticed a lot of really positive reviews all over the place.
By Mike
Yeah, it’s a nice plug-in. One thing that really buzzes me is when you have saved your post as a draft, you can’t access to the plug-in any more. I don’t know whether it’s a bug or not
By Dan Lew
We have recently updated the previous version and can now use the plugin in edit mode as well
By Soren
The plugin is designed to work when you add posts not edit them!
By Mike
hah, I see now
I think Dan should insert a guide in his package to show people how to use this plug-in properly next time he updates it. It’s kind of unprofessionally for me. Do you find any guide included in your package? I just found only one install guide and that’s it.
By Dan Lew
The install guide ( if needed ) is very easy to follow Mike, we also have a FAQ section with demo videos and a forum under the contact page!
By Tristan
Thanks for the review. I’ve been wondering if it was worth it and your review gave me some great insights and more food for thought. Appreciate it!
By Mike
You’re welcome, mate
Glad that the post has been helpful to you!

I am reading about this plugin from last few days but Mike you have written a kick ass blog review on it with a results also . Well I am blogging from 5+ years but most of the time I sold my blogs for profits . Do you personally think that this plugin is worth $47 .
By Mike
I will be happy to sell it for $37. $47 is for the price + fee paid to affiliates. The only thing that buzzes me is I can’t get keyword suggestions once I save draft but honestly, this plug-in saves me time in switching the tab.
By Dan Lew
The price recently increased to $77 for single license but its only $97 for multi-license and most people are taking this option now!
By Rob
I think the plugin is great and adds a lot of functionality. What does not make ANY sense to me is that it ONLY works when you add a new post and not if you wish to edit. I mean, I have tons of existing posts that would benefit BIG from this plugin, but if you click “edit” it doesn’t work. I mean why? And you can’t save a draft and then return and use the plugin either?
This is not a bug. This sounds like a MAJOR disadvange to me. So what do I have to do, basically work out of two windows and transport ALL of my existing posts from an “edit” window to an “add new.” How can a man as brilliant as Dan NOT build this to work on ANY post?
Whether it is new, edit, draft or whatever – this plugin should appear and be available to use. I am extremely disappointed and perplexed at the same time. Is there no way to fix this? If any of you guys can shed any light on this, I would be very grateful.
By Mike
Me too, Rob! I have to open two windows side by side to optimize post titles for existing post in my blog. So, in one window is the list of my blog post and the next window is adding new post with the plug-in gives me suggestions. It’s a BIG convenient for me. Let me ask Dan whether he could sort this problem out. If I am shed any light, I will let you know right away, Rob
By Dan Lew
Hi Guys,
We now have edit option, you can edit posts using the plugin, for all those who have bought and wish to get the updated version, just send an email through with your Clickbank receipt number,
Thank you
By Mike
Thanks Dan, just received your email. I’m so glad that you have fixed that problem
Good luck for the plug-in and hope it will become a mandatory plug-in for every blogger
By ark
Is there a free trial version for this?
By Mike
I’m afraid no, Ark. That plug-in has raised its price to $77, but recently got discounted to $60 in this Christmas, so this is a really good chance for you to buy one copy.
By Chet
Good review I was checking out this plugin and came across your blog. Helpful thanks.
By Wall Sticker Decal
yeah… thanks for give review…. i have more consideration after reading youir post review….. but i think this plugin is good.
By Sheoran
Very informative post mike! but where does it fetch the data from? dan’s website or directly from google?
By Mike
Hi Sheoran,
I think they fetch from Google themselves
By Brandon
I recently purchased Keyword Winner but I can’t get it to work. I’ve followed the instructions exactly (three times) and Keyword winner just “hangs”. All I see is the “Loading…” icon. I’m not getting keyword suggestions. I’ve changed the file permission to 777 in the uploads folder, I’m running PHP 5, I’ve re-uplaoded Keyword winner, I’ve tried several different post titles., I’ve double checked my google account settings, I’ve re-entered the clickbank order number into the license
field and double checked it for accuracy, I’ve even made sure I’ve downloaded the most recent version… still nothing. I don’t know what else to do.
I sent a support request to them about a week ago and haven’t heard back yet so I was going to request a refund but then I thought why not search the internet to see if anyone else has had this problem. When I saw Dan Lew personally replying to comments I thought maybe I should try to post the message here to see what happens.
Any suggestions or help you could offer would be appreciated.
Thanks
Brandon
PS – I’m posting this comment on another blog that Dan Lew has been active on so my apologies if you get this twice.
By Mike
Oh, well, that’s ok Brandon. From my understanding, sometimes getting into Google database is slow and that’s why you get the message “Loading..”. Anyway, I encourage you to contact directly with Dan Lew to resolve this problem. I know he’s hard-working huy and extremely love to help other people.
