Is Keyword Winner Truly Worth The $47 Price Tag?

Keyword Winner is a new WordPress plug-in released by Dan Lew. I know Dan through his comments in several posts in my blog and through his personal blog, so I could say Dan is a decent SEO expert guy. Despite his knowledge in SEO, let critic around his latest plug-in. In this post, we will take a complete view on Keyword Winner, to see what it is, what it isn’t and how you can squeeze “all of the juice” out of it.

What It Is?

There are many definitions on what the plug-in is all about (Funny, huh! :) ) But, I hope to give you a concise idea about this plug-in under my view.

Keyword Winner is a blog’s plug-in which aids on-page optimization for your blog.

How?

By showing you which keywords you should put in your title, slug, content and tags to gain maximum exposure from search engines.

Any other uses than that?

Oh, you are pushing me too far. If you want, here’s the extra use for it that I found.

Show you exactly what keywords you should put in your anchor text to build off-page optimization (or link building, please, for more simple and native term :) )

Do you get it?

I hope you do because I will not only give you a complete review about this software, but also how to use it right and show you one of my study case.

What It Is Not? Or Any Keyword Winner Scams?

There are so many critics around this plug-in since it was published. I won’t mind to put paraphrases of some critics here and I will comment around them so you can decide whether to purchase this plug-in or not.

First of, this plug-in is not a complete keyword research tool.

Sorry, but it’s true. If it’s a complete keyword research tool, I doubt Market Samurai will have to close down their website soon, haha.

Because it isn’t a complete keyword research tool, you can’t explore niches; you can’t find out how much monthly traffic, average cost per click, etc. No, none of that.

What I mean by explore niches? For instance, if I want to explore niche wedding, I will put wedding into keyword research software, says Market Samurai. Market Samurai will give me a huge list of up to 800 keywords that contain “wedding” in it and from then,  so I can explore keywords like “wedding plan”, “wedding book”, etc.

This plug-in won’t let me do that. If I type in “wedding”, it will give me a result of 10 keywords or so, which dosen’t help in exploring niches at all.

Some bloggers claim that it’s missing “exact phrase”, “broad phrase” feature. In case you don’t know what it is, I have an excellent post explaining these terms.

It’s right that this plug-in misses those features, but who care? I mean, if you decide on a keyword, you should optimize for that exact keywords as well as the long-tail versions of it. That means if I am going to target keyword “wedding plan book” for example, I can’t just create several hundreds backlinks with “wedding plan book” as an anchor text. Doing so will make it look unnaturally to search engines. So, I can have backlinks with anchor like “book about wedding plan”, “collection of books on wedding plan”, etc; You get the idea.

You may ask, since KeyWordWinner doesn’t offer lot of features in here. Why you should purchase it?

As I already say above, Keyword Winner offers you a convenience (you don’t have to switch back between tab and tab, WordPress to another software). In addition, it shows you exactly which keywords you have to optimize for. So I would strongly recommend you to purchase this software.

Note: I just received an email from Dan saying that the price will increase in the next 72 hours. You will have the chance to purchase it at $47 any more. It will go up at least $30. It’s better to secure one copy now!

How to use it right?

If you have purchased this software, welcome! Because in this section, I will give you an idea on how to use this plug-in right.

Whenever you’re in your blog admin dashboard, click on Add New button.

Type in first or two meaning words of a keyword you want to optimize for. Remember, just one or two words because I found this plug-in generates best results when you put in a short keyword.

Hit Get Suggestions.

The plug-in will return to you several rows. Pay attention to the green row first, if there’s any because it marks that’s a low competition keyword and you should put your title according to it.

You may notice now that this way only works if you don’t have any idea about a topic that you want to write. How’s about the case when you have a topic in mind?

In that case, just run one or two words of the main keyword for your topic into the plug-in and it will tell you how’s hard it is to get your post rank on the first page. If orange and red color are returned for your keyword, you may have to do little extra work to get it rank on the first page.

Study case of how I use Keyword Winner

One of the post that I have used Keyword Winner to optimize for post title, tag and other thing is “20 Awesome SEO Infographics + Bonus for bloggers“. First of, I put seo infographic inside the text box and run suggestions.

Keyword Winner tells me it’s not a good keyword to optimize for.

Ok, so obviously, I should not name anything like “SEO Infographic You Must Watch” etc.

Let’s take a look for keyword “SEO Infographics” then.

Alright. seo infographics is the good one because it has lowest competition pages than seo infographic. I have already optimized for that. Let see which page on Google where my site is.

Second position in second page. Not a very bad result!

Conclusion.

It’s not a surprise why several top bloggers like John Chow (you know his blog!), Hesham of Famousbloggers.net and many other people are talking about this product all the times. I personally think it’s a good product. You will need it to optimize for post title and other places on your blog. The price will increase in the next three days according to his website so it’s better to act now!
